The Ammerman Center 2022 Biennial Symposium on Arts and Technology will be held at Connecticut College in New London, CT, November 10-12, 2022. The aim of the Symposium, now in its 36th year, is to create an inclusive forum for multidisciplinary dialogue at the intersection of arts, technology, and contemporary culture in a variety of formats. In lieu of a standard keynote address and in keeping with our focus on Contact, affect, and collaboration, our featured speakers will be the members of the Centre for Emotional Materiality: Surabhi Saraf, Laura Hyunjhee Kim, Caroline Sinders, Marcus Brittain Fleming, and Mariah Hill.
This year's theme is CONTACT: In the contemporary vocabulary, "contact" is something to be avoided in physical interactions or something perhaps just out of reach in our remote relationships with others. Contact contains the promise of new and continued engagement within communities, among disparate institutions and so-called disciplines.

In addition, artists, scholars, practitioners, and activists will be joining us from all over the world to take part in performances, panel discussions, workshops, and other events throughout the week. Please join us!
The 2022 Symposium follows our series of Summits beginning in 2020 about seeking equity, diversity, and collaboration in the field and how the fields of arts and technology are shifting in the 21st century. In response, two key additions have been made:
- The Symposium schedule will include more open and collaborative opportunities for conversation and collaboration; it will include more concentrated pecha-kucha-style presentation and demo sessions, alongside other open opportunities, while limiting time allotted for full paper and panel sessions.
- Registration will be available on a sliding scale (see the registration page). The Symposium will also offer modest artist fees to exhibiting and performing artists, striving to increase these based on available resources.

The Ammerman Center is a community of students, faculty, staff, artists, and scholars dedicated to exploring the dynamic relationships between the arts, technology, and culture through experimentation, research and creation.
Kit Son Lee, Ammerman Visiting Fellow 2021-2022
Kit Son Lee (sometimes Son Kit) is a designer, developer, and artist based in Brooklyn, NY by way of Providence, RI and Koreatown, Los Angeles. Kit's work investigates, exaggerates, and narrativizes the methods of network surveillance, the attention economy, machine learning, and UX/UI design to confront them on the field of analogy. Through a form-agnostic practice spanning web experiences, interactive sculpture, graphic systems, and language (natural and programming), they appropriate interface metaphors towards the building of tools—for new approaches to, visceral implication in, and the collective sabotage of the computational structures undergirding contemporary society.
Kit is a co-founder of Codify Art, a Brooklyn-based producorial collective dedicated to supporting work by queer and trans artists of color, and an editor at Queer Aesthetics, an interdisciplinary open-access journal pursuing equitable representation in the arts. They have exhibited work at SOHO20 (Brooklyn), Naughton Gallery (Belfast), New Museum Youth Summit (NYC), and Franklin Street Works (Stamford), curated exhibitions at The Public Theater, bitforms gallery, and SPRING/BREAK Art Show, and given lectures and workshops at the Whitney Museum, Brooklyn Museum, PRINTED MATTER LA Art Book Fair, and Yale University, among other institutions. Their writing appears in The Art Happens Here: Net Art Anthology (Rhizome, 2019), Interjection Calendar 005 (Montez Press, 2020), and Smoke + Mold, Issue 4 (2021). They have taught at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and have been a guest critic at Brown University, The Cooper Union, and Parsons School of Design. Currently, they are Visiting Fellow at the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology at Connecticut College and Lecturer at the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. Kit holds an MFA in Graphic Design from RISD and BAs in Visual Art and Literary Arts from Brown University.
